Football master class from Steve McClaren has coaches on the ball!

Former England manager Steve McClaren gave a Football Coaching master class yesterday to leading coaching company Planet Sport at the headquarters of the Hampshire FA in Basingstoke.
In his role as an ambassador for Planet Sport, Steve organised a special coaching session which involved putting over 20 of the company’s Football Coaches through their paces. The session was designed to help develop the coaching skills and knowledge of the coaches in order to maintain the company’s high standards in grass roots sports coaching.
After a recent merger with Team Elite, the company now operates as the UK’s largest sports coaching network providing high quality and professional coaching programmes to children and schools all over the country.
The organisation delivers PE as part of the national curriculum as well as providing after schools’ clubs and a wide range of sports coaching programmes and residential courses for more than 20,000 children every week.

Planet Sport Managing Director Chris Vertannes said: “It was a privilege to have Steve with us, we share his passion for coaching and seeing him work with our coaches with such enthusiasm was an absolute pleasure.
It is important for our coaches to constantly develop and progress their skills, knowledge and techniques so that we can continue to provide unrivalled sports coaching for children of levels and abilities.”

Steve spent a morning with the coaches taking them through some of his favourite drills and coaching techniques, passing on his wealth of knowledge and experience of coaching at the very highest level.

Steve McClaren added: “I was delighted to lead the session. Coaching is all about passion and enthusiasm and making it enjoyable for everyone. I am a great believer in coaching the coaches as it improves the standards of coaching at all levels. Being involved with Planet Sport provides a superb platform to work with coaches and I’m delighted to be a part of it”
Head of football development at Planet Sport James Welsh added: “Steve was superb. What an inspiration to all of the coaches. The passion just pours out of him and we all learnt a huge amount this morning.”
As a result of the recent merger, Planet Sport /Team Elite are now the largest provider of coaching programmes for children in the UK. It’s a busy time for the organisation who are holding over 50 courses throughout seven counties including Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey.
